The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US on five Europeans working on combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted individuals that were at the heart of efforts to enact laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
