Iran is willing to reinitiate nuclear negotiations with Washington provided that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi declared only diplomacy produced results, and revealed fresh requests had come from go-betweens to restart discussions with the US government. He asserted Iran had zero secret atomic facilities, and Tehran could not yet allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to access bombed nuclear sites for safety concerns.

Navigating a Difficult Path

Araghchi is walking a challenging path since Iran does not want be perceived to be operating from a stance of disadvantage, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged stronger defensively and emotionally from the coordinated strike on its nuclear sites in June.

He was speaking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an absolute privilege to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the prior discussions.

Previous Discussions Unexpectedly Concluded

The prior phases of discussions between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and hostile conclusion on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a fortnight-long engagement that concluded with Donald Trump asserting the facilities had been destroyed. Following this, EU nations exercised their right to reimpose global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a significant effect.

Magic Solution Proposed

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had attained a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in earlier negotiations, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with US participation could process nuclear material. The two nations would have been able to assert triumph since domestic enrichment would have persisted and the US could be assured that Iran's atomic project was exclusively peaceful.
