The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
